A Tradition of Progress

Simon Ingersoll founded the Ingersoll Rock Drill Company in 1871. He probably never could have imagined that one day his company would be among the construction industry’s biggest names. The firm continued to expand, and by the 1920s they had diversified into selling locomotive diesel engines, among other ventures.

Ingersoll gradually increased his firm’s size and reach by buying up competitors until it became a major global player. In 1905 they bought the Rand Drill Co., whose drills had helped clear New York’s infamously rocky Hellgate Channel. More acquisitions followed, especially in the HVAC and refrigeration industries.

Today, Ingersoll Rand is one of the world’s most diverse industrial manufacturers. Their assets include industry standards like Club Car golf carts, Trane HVAC units, and Thermo King refrigeration.

Although their current model has shifted away from heavy industry, Ingersoll Rand construction equipment remains a rock-solid investment.
